Oregon Coast Food Prospector Tool: Invitation to Virtual Demo with Q&A
Dear Friends and Colleagues –
We are very thrilled to offer you a special sneak peek of what we are calling the Oregon Coast Food Prospector. This resource will be free and open for all to use!
It is very much a [DRAFT] food systems asset map for the 5 coastal counties of the Oregon Coast + Columbia County. Details are still being worked out and it’s not perfect yet, but you’ll get the big picture understanding of what it is and ways that it could be useful to your organization. We are interested to know how it could be of value to you and have employed Sea & Shore Solutions to lead this demonstration and acquire your feedback.
Investing in local food production can simultaneously secure local food security, improve our emergency preparedness infrastructure, and raise our standard of health and wellness, while at the very same time secure well paying jobs in food production, manufacturing, distribution, and sales. What other economic development opportunity can do all this?
Why is tourism involved? As you may know, in 2020 visitors to the Oregon Coast spent $840 Million on food services and food stores; yet most of the food products purchased were made from ingredients grown or harvested outside Oregon and/or the Oregon Coast. This massive economic leakage from our local economies can be reversed. We not only want to elevate the visitor experience by putting delicious and nutritious local food on the plate, but we are also proud of our $840M contribution to coastal communities and are intent on keeping this hard earned money here.
The Oregon Coast Food Prospector is dense with a mix of GIS and point-source data meant to assist private investors, food NGOs, local, state, and federal agencies to envision ways of increasing the capacity and vibrancy of our local food systems. Please take some time to explore this map prior to one of the below demos. We hope you will share your questions and recommendations for us after our short presentation on its capabilities and intended uses.
Please RFSP one of the following sessions:
August 26, North Coast 10:00am 2:00pm
August 29, Central Coast 10:00am 2:00pm
August 30, South Coast 10:00am 2:00pm
August 31, Non-Geo Specific 2:00pm
Much gratitude for your partnerships,
Marcus
