Our Commitments
The Oregon Coast Visitors Association’s commitment to climate action is an ongoing process guided by our comprehensive Mitigation, Adaptation, and Resiliency (MAR) Plan, which was developed in 2022. This plan outlines a roadmap for a sustainable future, focusing on key goals like reducing emissions and supporting restoration efforts.
Glasgow Declaration
Our goals and initiatives align with the Glasgow Declaration, a global commitment by tourism stakeholders to address climate change. We’ve categorized our work according to the Declaration’s key principles, which you can explore by clicking on the interactive blocks below.
Goals
We’re all about transparency. We advocate for consistent reporting, recommend best practices, and share our findings with the public. We’re also actively researching ways to better understand and minimize the carbon footprint of tourism on the Oregon Coast, and look forward to sharing those insights.
We are actively working towards the goal outlined by the Glasgow Declaration to reduce carbon emissions by 55% below the baseline by the year 2030 and 100% by the year 2050. This commitment extends to every aspect of the coastal experience – transportation, accommodations, activities, food, and waste management.
The Oregon Coast’s natural beauty is our most precious asset, and it’s made up of complex ecosystems. We actively support restoration efforts and collaborate with partners to ensure a healthy balance between tourism and the environment so visitors can experience the magic of the coast while helping to preserve it for generations to come.
Our extensive network of partners allows us to share knowledge about climate risks and solutions. Together, we’re developing effective resilience plans and creating a model action plan that others can follow. This plan integrates with existing state and federal resilience strategies, ensuring a unified approach to this work.
Building a climate-resilient future requires dedicated resources. We’re committed to securing the necessary funding and organizational capacity to achieve our goals. This includes financing training, research, and implementing effective fiscal tools to accelerate our transition towards a more sustainable future.
Resilience starts with everyone included. We champion diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) in all our climate action efforts. We’re integrating DEI principles into our solutions and strategies, seeking to eliminate barriers to participation and prioritizing initiatives that promote equitable and inclusive travel experiences for all.
