Newport Seafood and Wine Festival returns February 23-26
(Newport, Oregon) – The largest winter event for the entire Oregon coast returns to Newport on February 23 – 26, with the Newport Seafood and Wine Festival now celebrating 40 years of being a major high point of the season.
The last full weekend of February, the Newport Seafood and Wine Festival brings 157 vendors – this time around there’s 30 food booths, 84 wineries and 43 craft vendors. Most importantly, it brings thousands of people to town, with an estimated 25,000 in attendance over its four days and pumps two million dollars into the local economy, with its impact reaching to nearby towns as well.
This year’s theme is Vintage 1977 in honor of its 40-year anniversary. The presenting sponsor is Chinook Winds Casino in Lincoln City.
In recent years the festival added Thursday nights to the culinary fun. This year, several big aspects are new.
The festival’s app now features more information, which is free and available for download on the App Store and Google Play Store. It includes links to purchase tickets, lodging, maps, vendor lists, sponsors, and the new layout. It also shows the extensive schedule for shuttle buses to the festival from major stops and hotels around town.
“Our tent layout is new this year, our main entry will be on the north side of the lot near the Yaquina Bay and the Rogue House of Spirits,” said Bobbi Price, with the Newport Chamber. “We want to make sure people will know there is a new look with the same great atmosphere they have grown to love.”
The largest addition is the “Ruby Club Membership,” which gets you entry through the VIP entrance on all four nights. You will also receive a commemorative wine glass, a swag bag with coupons for several vendors at the festival, complimentary flight tastings from some wineries, free steamed oysters and other surprises.
Another prominent part of the Newport Seafood and Wine Festival every year is the wine competition, which is the longest continuous wine competition in the northwest. There were 181 entries this year.
