Tsalila Festival

Posted by OCVA / September 21, 2009

Tsalila (sa-Lee-la) is part entertainment, part education, lots of fun and is free and open to the public. The festival is located in Reedsport along the Umpqua River and at the Umpqua Discovery Center with activities focused on watershed restoration and salmon recovery.

Come and  enjoy the 13th Annual Tsalila Festival Friday, September 25th 3pm to 7pm and Saturday, September 26th 10am to 7pm. An alder smoked salmon dinner for $15.00 including squash, fresh corn on the cob, and cornbread, will be served both days, along with a vendor fair, a Native American Culture Village, and exhibits that encourage learning through fun and hands-on activities.  Opening ceremonies will be Saturday morning at 10am in front of the Umpqua Discovery Center and will recognize the winners of the poster contest with opening remarks by Chief Braindard of the Confederated Tribes of The Coos, Lower Umpqua and Siuslaw Indians.

This free family event will celebrate the return of the salmon to the Umpqua River and the wonderful natural and cultural resources of the Umpqua watershed.  Attend Tsalila and have fun at the River Box Display, find your way through the Salmon Maze, listen to the music, eat a delicious salmon smoked alder dinner, make a tule duck, listen to a guest speaker and explore the Umpqua Discovery Center for half-off admission.
