Pacific City Ore. – – The Birding and Blues Festival returns to Pacific City the weekend of May 1-3, 2015 with activities appealing to all ages. Pick from a bounty of events including guided birding hikes, live birds of prey talks, blues concerts, nature workshops, kayak trips, photography tips, and birding by ear walks.

The festival will offer an inaugural hike on newly minted U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service land: Two Rivers Peninsula at Nestucca Bay National Wildlife Refuge. The 200+ acre tract, acquired by the Service in 2013, juts into the confluence of the Nestucca and Little Nestucca rivers, comprising upland forest, freshwater shoreline and tideland. Two Rivers Peninsula boasts almost three miles of trails where the forest understory will be teeming with blooming wildflowers like bleeding heart, miner’s lettuce and fawn lily and the canopy will be alive with the songs of Pacific-slope Flyatcher, Western Tanager, Black-headed Grosbeak and Orange-crowned Warbler.

California Condors, North America’s largest avian scavenger, once graced the skies of the Pacific Northwest and their history in this region is the focus of this year’s featured presenter Dr. Susan Haig, Professor of Wildlife Ecology at Oregon State University. During her presentation Dr. Haig will share discoveries from her new book “California Condors in the Pacific Northwest,” which was published in 2013 in association with her co-author Jesse D’Elia.

By night the town will come alive with the sound of Blues. There will be concerts Friday and Saturday evenings where you’ll have a chance to get up close and personal with the bands and dance like a crazy bird. On Friday, May 1st beginning at 8 PM The T-Bones will be rocking out on stage. On Saturday, May 2nd at 8pm The Fabulous Roof Shakers will give an energetic performance. The festival is headquartered at the Kiawanda Community Center, 34600 Cape Kiwanda Drive, Pacific City, OR. Read about the full suite of events offered and register online at
