With group travel on the rise, organizations along the Oregon Coast are making sure everyone gets to join in on the fun. Crafted specifically for folks with disabilities, these trips showcase the best of the Oregon Coast, from thrilling ocean waves to peaceful forest hikes and the warmth of campfires with new friends. Here are some of the exciting and inclusive outdoor experiences you can join today.

Adventures Without Limits
Imagine whitewater rafting down a rushing river, paddling across a serene lake, or snowshoeing through a winter wonderland—and sharing that experience with your community, all with expert support and adaptive equipment at your side. That’s what Adventures Without Limits is all about. Based in Oregon, Adventures Without Limits (AWL) is a nonprofit devoted to opening the outdoors to everyone, regardless of ability or background.
With trained guides, top-notch gear, and an inclusive attitude, AWL runs hundreds of high-energy trips year-round. They also assist with systemic barriers to recreation—including transportation, outdoor apparel, skills training, and financial accessibility. There’s something for every season and ability.
There are several different trip types and options depending on your group’s size and needs:
Community Trips
AWL Community Trips are open enrollment, meaning anyone from the public can join. These pre-planned, no-hassle trips are great to just sign up and go. Activities vary by season, providing year-round opportunities to connect with the abundant natural offerings of the Pacific Northwest, and with each other.
While all of AWL’s community trips are designed to be accessible and inclusive, certain trips may be more appropriate and enjoyable for certain individuals. Check out the list of Community Trips that are currently available for a detailed description of each activity. You can also review AWL’s Essential Eligibility Criteria to understand the type of support provided on different Community Trips. If you are still unsure if a Community Trip would be a good fit for you or not, you can contact the AWL Team.
Custom Group Trips
AWL also offers personalized adventures that can be customized to fit the unique goals and needs of any group—whether it’s a nonprofit, business, family, community organization, or simply a bunch of friends looking to enjoy the outdoors together.
You can learn about the options for your adventure by browsing the “Choose Your Adventure” sections on the Partner Trips page. Once you’ve chosen your activity, send AWL a booking request via the Book Your Adventure Form, and the AWL team will contact you to finalize the details.
Events
AWL partners with different organizations to host events throughout the year. Check out the Events page to see what’s coming up!
One event held annually is the SMA Family Camp. SMA Family Camp is a week-long retreat created for families living with Spinal Muscular Atrophy. As part of the camp, AWL leads a full day of hiking and kayaking, tailored for individuals with SMA and their loved ones. AWL team members also stick around throughout the week, lending support for beach outings, joining in the glow parade, and even taking part in karaoke night.
Oregon Spinal Cord Injury Connection
Life after a spinal cord injury should still include adventure, nature, and connection. Oregon Spinal Cord Injury Connection (OSCIC) is a nonprofit working to make that happen. The organization combines peer support, advocacy, and hands-on events. Founded and operated by folks affected by spinal cord injuries (SCI), they know firsthand how vital recreation and community are for healing and happiness, offering a variety of Community Meet-ups and Recreational Activities.
Community Meet-ups
OSCIC organizes Community Meet-ups in accessible public venues such as pizza parlors, brewpubs, and restaurants. These meet-ups provide a welcoming space for individuals with SCI to connect, share experiences, and support one another. They are open to anyone affected by SCI or paralysis.
Meet-ups are held in various locations throughout the state of Oregon. Specific dates and times for these gatherings can be found on OSCI’s event calendar.
Excursions
Whether it’s paddling whitewater, handcycling through scenic routes, or exploring adaptive trails, OSCIC’s Recreational Activities put exploration into motion.

A routinely offered excursion is wheelchair hiking. Hiking events run year-round, with outdoor trips on wheelchair-friendly trails or indoors during the winter months. Whether you use a manual or electric wheelchair, you can join in on the fun—no special equipment is required. And OSCIC always provides details about transportation, parking, and the meeting location.
Another unique offering is CampAbility. Think classic camping—s’mores, stars, and fireside chats—planned with SCI in mind. These group trips offer participants the opportunity to get outside or get back outside while building community. OSCIC collaborates with organizations such as Adventures Without Limits, REI, and David’s Chair to ensure these events are accessible and memorable.
Check out the OSCIC calendar to find the most up to date excursion opportunities.
AmpSurf
Ready to ride the waves? AmpSurf is a West Coast nonprofit bringing adaptive surfing to people with disabilities, veterans, and first responders. Whether you’re catching waves or just learning to balance in the surf, their programs cater to all abilities.
AmpSurf offers a ParaSurf League for experienced surfers, and a ParaSurf Instructor’s course for those who are ready to share their knowledge. They also host beginners’ surf clinics using adaptive surfboards and one-on-one instruction from trained volunteers, helping everyone experience the freedom of the water.
You can follow AmpSurf’s Pacific Northwest Chapter on EventBrite to find out about upcoming Surf Therapy Clinics along the Oregon Coast.
Scuba Access for Everyone
Want to explore a world below the surface? Scuba Access for Everyone (SAFE) makes it possible. Based in Hillsboro, Oregon, SAFE provides adaptive scuba programs, gear, and certified instructors who specialize in inclusive diving techniques. While their main training happens inland, they offer inclusive dive excursions across the West Coast, and even internationally.
Even if you’re a total beginner, you can sign up for a Discover Scuba Experience and learn from certified instructors trained in adaptive diving. It’s a weightless world of wonder—and SAFE is here to guide you every step (or fin kick) of the way.
More Coastal Programs
Looking for more ways to join in on the fun? The Oregon Coast is home to grassroots groups offering creative, inclusive events all year long:
- Beach Buddies: This group offers social and recreational events (mostly indoors) for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
- COAAST Network: With free coastal meet-ups, this network aims to build friendships and reduce isolation amongst families affected by disability. Events range from whale watching and beach cleanups to arts and theater programs. Visit sammysplace.info to get involved.
Additionally, these organizations aren’t exclusively accessibility-focused, but they actively support inclusive participation and often provide accommodations:
- Tillamook Estuaries Partnership: Organizes guided activities and events that connect visitors to the Oregon Coast’s unique habitats. They have a Know Before You Go section on their website showcasing accessibility information in advance.
- Trailkeepers of Oregon: Hosts trail work parties and multiday trips. Some trails can be challenging, but the organization supports volunteers with different needs and abilities.
- Cape Perpetua Collaborative: Offers tide pool tours and other outdoor experiences. Tide pool tours can be physically challenging, but guides are flexible and willing to adapt to participants’ needs in real time.
There’s something special about the Oregon Coast. It’s wild, beautiful, and, thanks to these incredible organizations, more welcoming than ever. So gather your group, pack your gear (or borrow it!), and get ready to make some waves—because your next great adventure is waiting, and it’s built for everyone.
