The 2024 King Tide Photo Contest is live!
Help researches capture what future sea level rise might look like, and document our coastal landscapes during this year’s highest tides. In partnership with Oregon King Tides Project and Oregon Shores CoastWatch, we’re excited to announce another year of this citizen science project that encourages the safe documentation of these incredible events.
Check out last year’s winner’s here!
To encourage engagement and grow the library of data around high tide events, Oregon King Tides has put out an open call for photos of the season’s King Tides, which are collected and used for the continued better understanding of trends and impacts of these tides. Photos contribute to essential community science that supports planners, government, and communities with valuable insights on coastal flooding, erosion, and wave action.
Share the contest widely with all your partners and visitors to help grow the data-set for this important research! Whether it’s flooding, eroding beaches, or high-energy waves– every shot makes a difference. Comparison shots are especially valuable for showing changes over time, so feel free to share regular high-tide images, too.
Safety first: As you document high tides, remember to stay safe. Watch from a distance, avoid wave-swept areas and be mindful of your surroundings. Check out Oregon King Tides Project for more info on how to get involved and submit your photos.
