Treat yourself this winter at these relaxing coastal retreats.
For many people, winter is a time to slow down, get cozy, relax and reflect — and the Oregon Coast is just the place to do it. While the natural beauty of the Coast is enough to inspire a deep sense of peace in those who visit, it also features excellent hotels and spas where wellness takes center stage, many of which offer enticing off-season rates. Here are some of our favorite places for your winter wellness retreat.
Soak Among the Trees on the South Coast
A few miles inland from Gold Beach on the banks of the Rogue River, Tu Tu’ Tun Lodge offers new modernistic glass cabins with mirrored exteriors, finished in August 2024. You’ll also find group-friendly vacation homes and river-facing lodge rooms, some with ultra-deep outdoor soaking tubs. Spend a day relaxing at the spa with a soothing massage or a riverside glass-wall sauna. In the evening, head to the lodge restaurant for a glass of Rogue Valley wine by the big stone fireplace. Then sit down to a gourmet dinner with local seafood and produce from the hotel’s own garden.
If you’re looking for a good spot for some quiet reflection, book a stay in one of the five private cabins at WildSpring Guest Habitat in Port Orford. Privacy and serenity are emphasized here, and cabins are spaced far enough apart to make it feel almost like a solo retreat. All cabins have heated floors and massage tables, so you can enjoy a treatment right in your room. Afterward, head outdoors to the ocean-facing whirlpool hot tub for a soak under the open sky.
Balance Spa Time With Nature on the Central Coast
Combine a relaxing getaway with fantastic ocean views at Overleaf Lodge & Spa in Yachats, mere steps from hiking and tide pooling at Smelt Sands State Recreation Site. Many of the rooms here have big picture windows with Pacific views, plus jetted tubs where you can kick back with a glass of Oregon pinot from the hotel’s Wine Cove. While it’s tempting to just relax in your room, it’s worth visiting the spa for a calming massage or a Reiki treatment, followed by a sunset soak in an ocean-facing soaking pool and hot tub.
Just south of Lincoln City in Gleneden Beach, Salishan Coastal Lodge by SCP Hotels is a great place to balance indulging in luxurious spa treatments and communing with nature. You can spend your days exploring the wooded trails that weave through this 200-acre property, or prioritize unwinding across the way at The Spa at Salishan. There you can enjoy a customized massage and a balancing sound bath, or destress and detox with a peel-and-wrap combo. Finish your day with a nourishing fireside meal at The Attic or order room service and dine by your own personal fireplace — every room at the Salishan has one.
Practice Yoga and Chill on the North Coast
In Pacific City, Headlands Coastal Lodge & Spa is an excellent choice for a luxury wellness getaway right by the shore. The updated guest rooms are reminiscent of spa relaxation lounges, with massive windows that look out over Haystack Rock — did you know Cannon Beach’s famous seastack has a twin in Pacific City? — and gas fireplaces. It’s worth donning a Frette bathrobe and heading over to the property’s Tidepools Spa, where you can soak in a spacious outdoor hot tub, take a private yoga class or savor an ocean-inspired kelp body wrap.
A few minutes’ walk from Cannon Beach’s Haystack Rock, Stephanie Inn is a bright, art-filled boutique property that pulls out all the stops when it comes to pampering guests. Many of the rooms come with oceanfront balconies, and all have gas fireplaces and large soaking tubs. For an extra dose of self-care, head to the spa for an invigorating massage or a balancing facial, or head to nearby Cannon Beach Yoga Arts, where Stephanie Inn guests get one free yoga class per day.
