Travel Impact Calculator
An important part of sustainable travel is giving travelers the tools they need to understand their impact. In 2023, we partnered with a local environmental nonprofit, Tillamook Estuaries Partnership (TEP), to put together a Travel Impact Calculator.
This calculator, housed on our website allows travelers to calculate their transportation emissions. The calculator then gives travelers an option to donate directly to Tillamook Estuaries Partnership’s work, which sequesters carbon emissions. Travelers who use the tool can mitigate some of their emissions and learn about the impact of their travel.

How it all comes together
See how this project aligns with the Glasgow Declaration – a global commitment by tourism stakeholders to address climate change – and its key principles.
- Tillamook Estuaries Partnership was selected as our partner because of their ability to measure and verify sequestration impacts.
- The Travel Impact Calculator uses EPA standard measurements for emission calculations.
- As a tool, this calculator is also an opportunity for travelers to measure their impact.
- Donations made to TEP directly support carbon sequestration projects on the Oregon Coast.
- By understanding travel emissions, some travelers may choose lower-impact travel options.
The Tillamook Estuaries Partnership’s work supports riparian restoration projects along the entire Oregon coast.
OCVA & Tillamook Estuaries Partnership worked together closely to develop this calculator.
Development funds for the calculator came from OCVA Regional Cooperative Tourism Program funds. The calculator may also serve as a funding stream for other efforts in the mitigation, adaptation and resiliency space.
Tillamook Estuaries Partnership, as our project partner, demonstrated a commitment to empowering people through structuring projects to support equity, uplifting marginalized voices, and providing transparent feedback systems to partners.
