Western Flyer Visits Coos Bay & Charleston
Built in Tacoma in 1937, the Western Flyer became famous when John Steinbeck sailed it to the Gulf of California in 1940. After a meticulous restoration led by the Port Townsend Shipwrights Co-op, the vessel now serves as a platform for ocean science and education.
On Saturday May 9th the Western Flyer will be docked in Charleston’s Marina B Dock with free boat tours from 12 – 4 p.m. Also on Saturday take in the Charleston Marine Life Center’s 10th anniversary open house.
On Sunday, May 10 – at the Egyptian Theatre – enjoy an evening program featuring a talk by Dr. Craig Young and screening of “We Simply Liked It”.
