Sunset Bay State Park Guest Speaker Series with Kyle Motley, Elahka Alliance

On Thursday, August 20 from 6 – 7 PM at Sunset Bay State Park, join Kyle Motley, Coastal Community Coordinator of the Elakha Alliance, as he shares efforts to return an iconic native species, the sea otter, to the Oregon Coast. Fur traders of the 18th/19th centuries wiped out sea otters along most of the Pacific West Coast. Russian trappers called their pelts “soft gold.” The Elakha Alliance — named for the Chinook word for sea otter — works to reverse that loss and restore a healthier marine environment. Kyle will explain why reintroducing sea otters means more than simply relocating animals here. Meet at the Interpretive Center at the Sunset Bay Campground.
