At the southern end of the Samuel H. Boardman State Scenic Corridor are two nice areas to explore: Lone Ranch Beach and the short hike around Cape Ferrelo, one of the best short hikes in the park.

From the small parking area just off Highway 1, the trail heads out through low trees and brush. In a short while the trees give way to grassy rolling coastal bluffs that offer outstanding views both north and south. The trail meanders around the curving point with many places to sit and admire the scenery. On the south side of the cape there is a great view of Lone Ranch Beach and beyond to Brookings and California. Be sure to stop at the marvelous hilltop bench to take in a bit more of the beauty before heading back across the cape to the parking area. There is also a trail the branches off to the south below the bench that leads to Lone Ranch Beach and beyond.
