Winter Waterways Photo Contest
Are you a winter enthusiast? Do you love getting out on the waterways to clam, crab, sports charter fish, kayak, or paddleboard during the cold season? Even if you just like to watch the highest tides (King Tides) of the season rise and fall then you know how uniquely beautiful our ocean is in winter. Turn your adventures into a prize and enter our Winter Waterways photo contest!
What are King Tides?
In early winter each year, high tides in Oregon are higher than normal. These extreme high tides are known as “King Tides” and occur a few times each winter when the moon is closest to the earth. Not only are king tides beautiful, but they continue to rise and encroach on human infrastructure. We document King Tides to help visualize and understand the impacts of sea level rise over the coming years. If you take photo during the designated King Tide periods with human infrastructure in the photo, you can also enter for the Grand Prize. To learn more about King Tides, please visit Oregon King Tides.
This year’s King Tide dates are:
- December 3-5, 2017
- January 2-4, 2018
