Art & Music Storm Cannon Beach
Three full days of art and musical events are planned for the 29th Annual Cannon Beach Stormy Weather Arts Festival, November 4-6. Popular festival events include Art in Action and a spotlight concert each year. The festival has also added the Dancing in the Rain Fashion Show. Throughout the weekend, the town’s galleries will present special events showcasing the artists they represent, with many of the artists on hand to present their latest works, conduct demonstrations or discuss their work.
The festival kicks off with a Friday night spotlight concert in the intimate 200-seat Coaster Theatre that will showcase Grammy-nominated singer songwriter Ellen Whyte and her five-piece band. In addition to Grammy nominations, Whyte has garnered several awards from the Cascade Blues Association including an induction into their Hall of Fame for Best Contemporary Blues Band in 2002. She is known for her astonishing vocals and she moves easily through genres from blues and jazz to funk and ballads.
Saturday’s events happen against a backdrop of live music with performances throughout the town during the day. The morning Stormy Weather Fashion Show will feature fashions from local designers and galleries. At the evening Art in Action dinner and auction, professional artists will demonstrate their techniques and create works of art available for purchase during the event’s banquet and silent auction. The auction will offer attendees the opportunity to bid on unique Cannon Beach experiences, travel packages and other items. The evening will also feature live music.
Cannon Beach is home to over a dozen art galleries and has been named one of “The 100 Best Art Towns in America” by author John Villani in his book by the same title. Many of the gallery’s most successful national and regional artists, as well as prominent local artists, will be showcased during the festival.
