6th Annual Fish Taco Cook-Off Results
Lincoln City, OR – Over 550 guests visited the Culinary Center in Lincoln City on Saturday, May 3rd for the 2014 Fish Taco Cook-Off. Five coastal chefs competed for the title of “Best Fish Taco” as voted on by the guests in attendance.
The favorite dish of the day came from Chef Adan Magana of Pacific City-based Pelican Pub and Brewery for their Fried Rockfish Taco. The Pelican Pub and Brewery has taken first place at the last four Culinary Center sponsored cook-offs: Wild Mushroom, Chowder, Jambalaya, and now Fish Taco. This gives them a clean sweep of all four cook-offs, a feat that has never before been accomplished.
2nd place in this year’s competition was awarded to Chefs Jason Lewis and Justin O’Dell of Nelscott Café in Lincoln City for their Baked Cod Island Taco. 3rd place went home with Chef Jen Easton of J’s Fish and Chips in Lincoln City for her Baked Pacific Cod Taco.
Additional dishes were presented by two other restaurants including Bay 839 in Newport and the new Taft’s Catering and Banquet Hall in Lincoln City. While not eligible for People’s Choice voting, Chef Sharon Wiest of the Culinary Center prepared a popular Wild Albacore Tuna Taco sponsored by the Oregon Albacore Tuna Commission.
Sweet treats were also a hit with offerings from Captain Dan’s Pirate Pastry Shop and My Petite Sweet of Lincoln City. The Wince Cellar @ The Eventuary took over the task of keeping attendees’ thirst at bay with local wines and craft beers, while musician Mark Alan entertained the crowd with his unique style and sound.
The next Lincoln City Cook-Off event is the Wild Mushroom Cook-Off taking place on Saturday, October 11, 2014, once again at the Culinary Center in Lincoln City.
