The Wonder of the Coast

Posted by The Oregon Coast / March 28, 2014

Whoever named the 7 Wonders of the World clearly never visited the Oregon Coast. Because every inch of Oregon’s 363 miles of coastline inspires wonder. When visitors spend time here they’re awestruck by the varied landscape — from the craggy cliffs and coves like Ecola State Park and Cascade Head to the windswept dunes near Florence and peaceful estuaries that kiss the Pacific Ocean.

Storm chasers love the feel of bracing winter winds that leave the sea churning and the water’s edge a treasure trove of stones and shells, while beach bums relish the miles of sand, the warmth of summer sun and bonfires that cut the chill of evening.

Art and culture lovers thrill to the architectural wonders of the Yaquina Head Lighthouse and the graceful bridges at Astoria, Newport and Gold Beach. The natural architecture of Haystack Rock, Devils Punchbowl and Whaleshead near Brookings are just as inspiring.

Foodies delight in beers concocted by Fort George Brewery, Rogue Ales and Arch Rock Brewing Company, along with artisan cheese and chocolate and the taste of sweet Dungeness crab pulled straight from the sea.

The sporty set heads to Bandon Dunes Golf Resort to tee off at one of America’s most picturesque courses, and Indian Beach to learn to surf. And wildlife lovers never forget spying a herd of majestic Elk grazing the marshy pastures near Reedsport or an underwater walk through shark-filled waters at the Oregon Coast Aquarium. Once you start to explore the wonders of the Oregon Coast, the only thing you’ll be left to wonder is when are we coming back?

My favorite spot on the Oregon beaches is “100 Step Beach” just NW of Oceanside. Great Agate Hunting there!
