RECIPE FOR ROMANCE! - Oregon Coast Visitors Association

Posted by OCVA / January 25, 2012

Here’s the story: February is Romantic Getaway month on The People’s Coast. And whether you’re looking for the traditional or the unique, want to renew your vows or spark a new relationship, relax with a friend or kick up your heels, we’ve got enough tempting offers and sweetheart deals to make any lovebird sing. So don’t go looking for love in all the wrong places. The one place you can find the heart and soul of everything you love is right here on The People’s Coast.

Tradition has it we should start with the traditional, so we will. The historic Little Log Church in Yachats is the perfect spot to celebrate your loving commitment with a St. Valentine’s Wedding Vow Renewal Ceremony. And if you’re planning your first wedding, you can say “I do” at the Stone Crest Cellar Bed & Breakfast in Newport, named one of Martha Stewart’s “Best Wedding Venues.”

You say you’ve been together so long your marriage license can be found in the Hall of Antiquities? Well, congrats! Maybe you can find a companion piece at this month’s Antique Week in Lincoln City.

Prefer something a little less traditional? How about sharing a Valentine’s Day kiss with a sea lion at the Oregon Coast Aquarium in Newport? After all, what are a few whiskers between friends? Or join other lovebirds looking for winged wildlife in Charleston or searching for hidden treasures in Lincoln City and Gold Beach.

Celebrate Black History Month with live performances and art exhibits in Lincoln City, or view the wildlife sculptures of Melissa Cooper at the Bronze Coast Gallery in Cannon Beach.

We tell ya, folks, we could write a book about all the stuff going on this month on The People’s Coast. And so could you, if you attend the South Coast Writer’s Conference in Gold Beach, where you can participate in hands-on workshops and gain inspiration from novice and published authors. (Full disclosure: we were not invited to the South Coast Writer’s Conference, though we’re pretty sure it’s only because the organizers decided to cancel the “How to Write an Electronic Newsletter and Languish in Obscurity” workshop. That’s our story and we’re sticking with it.)

Speaking of which, a funny thing happened to us on the way to the coast: a comedy concert at Chinook Winds Casino in Lincoln City. (Budda-bing!) And if comedy doesn’t tickle your fancy, you can also catch the Barbershop Music Festival in Yachats, the Patrick Lamb concert in Cannon Beach, Ronnie Milsap in Lincoln City or the Pistol River Concert in Gold Beach.

But wait, there’s more! We haven’t even mentioned the Annual Art & Chocolate Festival in Brookings, the “Food Share Crab Feed” in Florence, the Cedar Valley Fish Fry in Gold Beach, the Confluence 2012 Wine, Beer, Seafood and Music Festival in Reedsport, the annual Seaside Jazz Festival in Seaside or the annual Seafood & Wine Festival in Newport!

Love a sweetheart deal? Who doesn’t! Try Lincoln City for a choice of two Sweetheart Romance packages at The Cottages at Cape Kiwanda, with roses, chocolates and a classic massage; the Sweet Escape package at Inn at Cape Kiwanda with truffles, wine and a basket of bath products; or the Break in the Storm offer at Shorepine Vacation Rentals, which includes a guided horseback ride at sunset. Hard to say “neigh” to those offers.

In Lincoln City, the Romantic Escape package at Inn at Spanish Head includes champagne, keepsake glasses and a candlelight dinner for two, and with the Romance Packages at Inn at Wecoma or Coho Oceanfront Lodge they’ll ply you with handcrafted chocolates and adorn your bed with rose petals.

Join pet-friendly Edgewater Cottages in Waldport in celebrating its 50th year with a third night free offer. In Yachats, Overleaf Lodge & Spa is offering a bottle of wine, a box of chocolates and two one-hour relaxation massages, while Fireside Motel will trade you a 20 percent discount in exchange for a donation of one can of food to Lincoln County Food Share. And you’ll find Storm Watching and Romance Packages at accommodations throughout Gold Beach.

Wherever you go and wherever you stay on The People’s Coast, it’s always love at first sight, or second sight, or third sight . . . Well, you get the picture.

Had a memorable romantic moment on The People’s Coast? Well, share the love, sweetheart, and tell us all about it online, on Facebook or on Twitter. It’s online romance at its best!

Need help planning the perfect romantic getaway? Don’t forget to look into our Mile-by-Mile Guide to the Oregon Coast. It’s full of useful information and tips, and it’s free for the asking! What’s not to love about that?
