Birthday getaway of a lifetime

Posted by Courtney Walters / November 11, 2009

As a well deserved break we headed from Grants Pass to the beautiful coast town of Port Orford. We sang along to the radio and reminisced along with each song as we followed the winding roads through the Kalmiopsis Wilderness to Highway 101. This was our coast- bound caravan of crazy women!

For this special weekend we rented a beautiful farm house on the coast filled with rich history, perched upon a hill revealing spectacular views of a prairie and the shoreline beyond. After getting settled in we walked to the beach and watched the sun set revealing brilliant colors which were reflected in the waves.

We enjoyed a champagne brunch the next day while the warmth of the double sided fireplace took the chill off the breezy coast morning. Our favorite activity was basking in the sun and soaking in the hot tub while we watched the waves break along the shore. In the evening, as the sun was setting, we watched as deer nibbled in the prairie and birds dove, combing the tops of the long grasses.

The next morning we all went for a brisk jog down the coast line; what a great work out! This area was especially nice because it allowed us to get back to nature and enjoy all the scenic beauty so much of the Oregon Coast has to offer. We can’t wait to visit again!
