102nd Florence Rhododendron Festival (Member Event) in Florence

With the theme, “Pacific Wonderland,” the festival officially begins on Friday evening with the Rhody Pageant to crown “Queen Rhododendra.” Events throughout the weekend include parades, car show, arts and crafts fair, carnival and much more. At the Florence Events Center on Saturday and Sunday, view the colorful rhodies that inspire the second-oldest flower festival in Oregon at the judged Rhododendron Festival Flower Show. Peruse the plant sale to see what would look great in your garden this season. Get up early on Saturday for the Rhody Run. With 10K and 5K courses, the 2009 route will take participants through Old Town, along the Siuslaw River, out along the scenic Rhododendron Drive and back.

Oregon Coast Lighthouse Photo Contest in Newport

Friends of Yaquina Lighthouses and staff will commemorate Oregon’s unique lighthouses with its 9th annual photo contest. All amateur photographers worldwide and of any age are encouraged to enter. Contestants may submit one monochrome and/or one color, digital or film. The contest includes two age group categories, youth under 18 and adults 18 or older. Photos will be displayed in the Interpretive Center throughout the summer. Winners receive Interpretive Store certificates.
