Waxmyrtle Trail crosses the Siltcoos River bridge which offers seasonal glimpses of barn swallows and an occasional migrating fish. Turn west and follow the picturesque Siltcoos River estuary, watching for ducks, herons, osprey, eagles, beaver, and otters. Dramatic views of the lower estuary and ocean highlight this trail. At 0.5 mile, the trail divides. During snowy plover nesting season (from March 15 through Sept. 15), hikers with dogs are not allowed on the estuary trail. Turn south along the sand road
