It’s hard not to fall for Cannon Beach — especially in autumn, when the skies are wetter, the air crisper, the shadows longer. Declared “One of the World’s 100 Most Beautiful Places” by National Geographic and located a mere 90 minutes from Portland, this romantic beachfront burg of 1,700 is big on post-summer pleasure.

On October 21, 2017, the 20th annual Dog Show on the Beach returns to the sands fronting the Surfsand Resort. Then, considered “the most remarkable for this fall” by the Cannon Beach Chamber of Commerce’s Court Carrier, will be the 30th annual Stormy Weather Arts Festival, November 3-5, 2017. “It will feature a couple of major new programs that will truly be exciting,” he said. “A new dessert and cocktail coffeehouse function to welcome folks Friday night, a highlight fashion show with major new runway participants, a showcase concert on Saturday night with music by Heels to the Hardwood, and a return of our newly offered Blues, Brews, and BBQs luncheon send off for weekend participants. Something for everyone!”

For ladies looking for something a little different but just as fun (and men are welcome to attend all events), look no further than the seventh annual Women Only Weekend (WOW), three days (November 10-12, 2017) of food, wine, exercise, shopping and self-rejuvenation.

Starting that same weekend and lasting through December 29 is Haystack Holidays, a slew of events designed to get you into that festive holiday mood. Highlights include Black Friday’s Mimosa Madness, performances of “A Christmas Carol,” holiday lights, window-display contests, wreath-making, photos with Santa, a lamp-lighting ceremony and much more.
