St. Patrick’s Day Celebration
The bagpipes, flutes and bodhrán are calling, Lincoln City. They’re inviting you to the fourth annual St. Patrick’s Day Celebration, an evening of song and dance to celebrate the biggest Irish-American holiday of the year. The concert will begin at 7 pm on Thursday, March 17, at the Lincoln City Cultural Center.
The evening will feature the quartet of Pipedance: Gary Burman (Irish uilleann bagpipes, flutes, whistles, guitar), Nora Sherwood (bodhrán, whistles and sean-nós dance), Bo Leyden (mandolin and banjo) and Jason Courtney (Irish bouzouki).
Sherwood and Burman form the core of Pipedance. Nora is a talented dancer of sean nós, an old style Irish dancing with its low to the ground, more impromptu form of footwork and movement, often on a smaller area. She also plays varied Irish whistles and the bodhrán, the Irish frame drum. Gary performs on varied bagpipes including the Irish Uilleann Pipes, whistles, harmonica, mandolin, and guitar. They’ve performed in festivals, ceíli dances, and pub sessions in Colorado, California, Washington and Oregon.
The LCCC St. Patrick’s Day concert will also feature a contingent from the Molly Malone Irish Dancers, of the Yeates Academy. The Yeates Academy is Oregon's longest running Irish dance school and has produced many champion Irish dancers during its 35-year history in Oregon. Enjoy the fabulously intricate rhythmic footwork of these skilled dancers in colorful costumes. The dancers will perform to live music by Pipedance (rather than recorded music as in years past).
On St. Patrick’s Day, March 17, the doors to the LCCC auditorium will open at 6:30 pm. The show will begin at 7 pm. Northwest beers and wines, My Petite Sweet cookies, sodas and Mountain Man snacks will be sold before the show, and at intermission.
For this performance, the LCCC is offering reserved front-row tables, each table seating four persons, for $75. General admission tickets, good for any open seat past the front two rows, are $16 for adults, $5 for youth ages 18 and younger. Tickets will be sold at the door (if any remain) for $18/$7.
