2nd annual Lincoln City Chalk Art Competition

Posted by OCVA / July 11, 2015

Come help us transform the sidewalks of the historic Delake School building into colorful works of art during our 2nd annual Lincoln City Chalk Art Competition “Chalk it up to 50 Years!”  On Saturday, July 11 from 11 to 3 p.m. the sidewalks surrounding the Lincoln City Cultural Center will become blank slates for artistic creations for the young and the young-at-heart. In addition to the outdoor art competition, a workshop with professional chalk art instructor will be given from 9 am to 11 am. Vendor booths will be set up on the lawn, selling food and drinks and promoting local children’s programs.

Age categories for the sidewalk chalk competition are 6 and under, 7-11, 12-17 and 18 and older. Awards and prizes will be given for age categories as well as a grand prize of $50 for art depicting and celebrating Lincoln City’s 50th Anniversary. Artists should arrive by 10:45 for registration and square assignment.  Priority placement will be given to early registrants. Judging will be held at 3 pm and prizes awarded immediately after.

“This event allows children, families, and artists of all skill levels to come together in a creative and communal way to share in the joy of making art outside. Also, this year’s theme and special category celebrating Lincoln City’s 50th Anniversary puts a local spin on the competition and educates our tourist population as well”, says Sam Randall, Program Coordinator at the Cultural Center.

Registration for the sidewalk chalk art competition is $5 for ages 6 and under and $10 for ages 7 and up and includes a sidewalk square and box of chalk. Individuals can purchase squares next to each other to produce a group work. The chalk art workshop is free.  Registration forms can be picked up at the Cultural Center or printed from the Center’s website.

The planning committee is currently seeking vendors as well as volunteers to assist with set-up, registration, monitoring, and clean-up. For vendor registration or volunteering, contact Sam Randall at 541-994-9994 or sam@lincolncity-culturalcenter.org.
