‘A Moving Sound’ Show

Posted by OCVA / September 29, 2014

Sheng Dong, or as it translates in English, A Moving Sound, has created a new musical expression that fuses Taiwanese and Chinese musical ideas into inspired and engaging modern song compositions. They play songs on Chinese instruments, such as the vertically held and bowed erhu and the Chinese guitar known as zhong ruan, as well as Western instruments. Transcendent vocals and dance by lead singer Mia Hsieh, transport listeners to and beyond the Far East, no matter where A Moving Sound happens to be – from Peter Gabriel’s WOMAD in the U.K., to the Melbourne Music Festival in Australia, and everywhere in between.

On Monday, Sept. 29, Sheng Dong will be on the Oregon Coast – at the Lincoln City Cultural Center, to be exact. This 5-member ensemble will lead their audience through two sets of stirring, unforgettable, unexplored territory, down the Silk Road with stops in Mongolia, Kazakhstan and India. A Moving Sound will perform a morning concert for the students of Taft 7-12, followed by a public performance that evening.

The evening show will begin at 7 pm in the LCCC auditorium, 540 NE Hwy. 101. Advance tickets are $20, with a $2 increase at the door. Youth ages 18 and under will be admitted free. Advance reservations are recommended.
