Lincoln City, OR – Over 500 guests stopped by the Culinary Center in Lincoln City on Saturday, February 1st, for the 2014 Jambalaya Cook-Off.  Six Northwest chefs competed for the title of “Best Jambalaya Dish” as voted on by a panel of professional judges and guests in attendance.

2014 Jambalaya Winners

The favorite dish of the day came from Chef Jacob Moore of Pacific City-based Pelican Pub and Brewery for their Pacific Northwest Jambalaya, which took home 1st place in the professional judging category and claimed the coveted People’s Choice Award as well.  Pelican Pub and Brewery has now taken first place at the last three Culinary Center sponsored cook-offs.

2nd place went to Chef Ethan Granberg of Rockfish Bakery Café in Lincoln City for his Jambalaya with shrimp and house-made sausage.  3rd place went home with Chef Jocelyn Kelly of Gumbo Goddess Catering out of Vancouver, WA for her Three Shrimp and Crawfish Jambalaya.

Additional dishes were presented by three Lincoln City restaurants including Vivian’s Restaurant, Deli 101 and Chinook Winds Casino Resort.  Sweet treats were also a hit with offerings from Captain Dan’s Pirate Pastry Shop and My Petite Sweet, while Nelscott Wine Shop took over the task of keeping attendee’s thirst at bay with local wines and craft beers.  The Ivie-Meziere Trio entertained the crowd with their mellow rock and zydeco-style music, while Dr. Scott Salmons of Depoe Bay, and a Louisiana native, presented the history of King Cake, a Mardi Gras favorite.

The next Lincoln City Cook-Off event is the Fish Taco Cook-Off taking place on Saturday, May 3, 2014, once again at the Culinary Center in Lincoln City.
