Alder Dune Campground is at the northern end of an area of partially forested dunes to the north of Florence. This small campground sits between two small, sandy lakes in an open coastal forest. The Sutton Trails hiking network, which has a trailhead at the day use picnic area adjacent to the campground, provides access to Sutton Campground and Sutton Beach, as well as opportunities to explore the nearby dunes.

The sites in this older campground are somewhat small, although some of them offer nice views of Dune Lake and good privacy. The cozy nature of the sites also discourages large groups and helps to keep Alder Dune a relatively quiet and uncrowded oasis compared to the larger campgrounds nearby. Alder Dune is great choice for the tent camper who is looking for good access to coastal hiking and proximity to some of the amenities in nearby Florence.
