FREE Concert Series

On Monday, December 2 the SWOCC Symphonic Choir, under the direction of David Aakre, will perform at 7:00 p.m.  The Choir will perform a variety of works from the traditional large choir repertoire including a few holiday classics. The Music Club will be collecting non-perishable food items as part of the College’s Van Jam 2013 project helping feed people on the South Coast, so please bring an item or two to deposit in the Music Club boxes at the entrance to the performance hall.

 On Tuesday, December 3 at 7:00 p.m., the SWOCC Community Orchestra, under the direction of Mark Allen, will perform a variety of works for Orchestra, including works by various composers along with a few Christmas classics. 

On Wednesday, December 4 at 7:00 p.m., join us for an evening of Jazz music as the SWOCC Vocal Jazz Ensemble, under the direction of Charlotte Pierce, performs a variety Jazz tunes arranged for Swing Choir.  Finally, the concert will conclude with the Oregon Coast Lab Band’s “Evolution” under the direction of Professor Mike Turner who is also the Executive Music Director of Oregon Coast Lab Bands and Director of Music at Southwestern.  Students in Evolution range in ages 9 to 21 and includes several SWOCC music students.  Evolution will be recording this concert for their first ever live CD which will be a Christmas CD consisting entirely of Christmas arrangements for Big Band.  In addition, the Jazz Choir will join Evolution for three tunes — is also a first!  So come be a part of history for the College and Oregon Coast Lab Band.  

All performances take place in the Hales Center for the Performing Arts located on the Southwestern Oregon Community College Campus (SWOCC). All concerts are FREE and open to the public, the Music Department will be accepting donations to help pay for its many department needs.  In addition, the Music Club will be collecting non-perishable food items as part of the College’s Van Jam 2013 project helping feed people on the South Coast, so please bring an item or two to deposit in the Music Club boxes at the entrance to the performance hall.
