Sand Master Park sent 2 Oregon Coast champion sandboarders to the annual competition ‘Baja Sandboarding 2012′ at Algodones Dunes, Baja Mexico last weekend.
Gabriel Cuz (20) and his brother, Jackson Cruz (17) made the long drive down from North Bend to Palm Springs where they met up SMP director, Lon Beale staying the night before heading to the Mexican border.
A quick stop at the Imperial Sand Dunes at Butter Cup station, California allowed Gabe and Jackson to take a few runs on the US dunes before crossing the border for a 3 hour session in Baja and thus sandboarding 2 countries in one day!
Enjoying the hospitality of the event organizer and family in San Luis Rio Colorado they returned to Algodones for a full day of intense sandboarding.
There were 27 competitors total and 200+ spectators. Fox Sports covered the competition along with a couple other tv programs and magazines+newspapers.
There was no shortage of media attention. Sand Master Park was a major sponsor and provided prizes and give aways for all who participated.
It was a close battle for the top 5 spots yet Gabe Cruz came home of a 2nd place win and Jackson on his heels with a 3rd in Pro division showing why the Oregon Coast sandboarders are so well known around the world for this amazing sport. Our congratulations to both of them!!
