Hurry up, November

Posted by Ann Bailie / September 13, 2010

This isn’t much of a story. Rather it’s a wish list.
Our son, Matt and his wife, Kristin, moved to Portland from Wisconsin when they were married three years ago. We miss them terribly, but they have fallen in love with Oregon and consequently, we seldom see them. (Wish #1-Lower airfares and maybe one direct flight between Milwaukee and Portland…fat chance.)
Matt has a twin sister living in Madison and these two have always been the closest of friends. She has two girls, Olivia, age 2 and Addison, 7months. Kristin and Matt flew in for 2 days in early June, but it’s very difficult for Sara, her husband and the girls to visit Oregon. Meanwhile, the girls are growing and changing every day, and somehow, Skypeing doesn’t quite fill the bill. (Wish #2-a family visit to Portland…again, fat chance).
We try to visit the kids at least once a year, but that can get difficult. We not only have to consider their work schedules, but also their mountain climbing calendar, and a host of other things like Hood to Coast and the NY Marathon). The last time we visited we had such a wonderful time…seeing Multnomah Falls, Mount Hood, Full Sail Brewery and the Columbia River Gorge. But that was 18 months ago. (Wish #3- Hurry up, November! We’re thrilled to be coming to Portland for the Thanksgiving weekend!) Our plans include touring the wine country, seeing the Saturday market and a drive to the beautiful Coast to see Cannon Beach, Oswald West State Park and visit Kristin’s folks who now reside in Manzanita. We can’t wait.
