As spring breaks on the horizon, it’s time to bring your family to real life on The People’s Coast.
Is your family spending way too much time interacting with their individual electronic communication gizmos and not nearly enough with each other? Then why not access a vast social networking site unlike any other? The People’s Coast, where the birds all Twitter and Tweet, and there’s absolutely no limit on characters! You’ll discover unlimited access to miraculous views, experience real life in real time and maybe even reconnect with the true nature of your family.
With 363 miles of spectacular shoreline open to all, feel free to wade right in. It’s easy to find a family adventure all your own.
If your teen is finally getting bored with surfing online, try board-surfing the sand dunes at Sand Master Park in Florence. Or catching the ocean breeze on the vast stretch of dunes gracing the shore in Reedsport and Winchester Bay. Learn the skills of windless flight at the Indoor Kite Festival in Lincoln City. And if you start feeling all sentimental and mushy about this family stuff, learn how real team players pull together at the dog-sled Dune Mushers event in North Bend.
In the mood for a really big family reunion? The gray whales are migrating back north with their 2000-pound babies, and whale-speaking volunteers at 26 sites up and down the coast will help you spot them. Make a big impact by volunteering the whole family to help rid Oregon’s beaches of debris at the SOLV Great Oregon Spring Beach Cleanup.
Looking to enjoy s’more for less? Check out the beach campfire and s’mores family packages available this month at The Inn at Cape Kiwanda in Pacific City and The Coho Oceanfront Lodge in Lincoln City. And talk about a great escape from the ordinary! Kids stay for free as part of the spring break family fun packages from Escape Lodging in beautiful Cannon Beach.
More mature tastes will be well served at Beach Bite & Brew event in Seaside or Cougar Crest Winery’s Winemaker’s Dinner in Cannon Beach. If that doesn’t sound playful enough for your tastes, consider this: The South Coast Clambake Jazz Festival in North Bend features 11 bands playing Dixieland, Big Band, Jump & Jive, Rock & Roll, Zydeco, Blues and Doo-wop.
The People’s Coast. From the salty characters in Brookings to the lollygagging sea lions at Cape Arago. From the gem that is Yachats to the fishing charters in Depoe Bay. From the Cape Meares lighthouse near Tillamook to the historic character of Astoria, we’ll give you plenty to tweet about.
