The Birthday with A Friend

Posted by Meresa Bumpass / April 1, 2009

It was close to my birthday and I had finally obtained permission to take a friend to the Oregon Coast. This friend almost never left home so getting her to go somewhere was a real treat to me. We left home at 2:00 A.M so we could get to the beach early because I had only been allowed three days off from my job. We reached the Coast and began to explore. The Historic Nye Beach has lots of fascinating shops and great shopping. We also visited The Undersea Gardens, Wax Works, Ripley’s Believe It or Not, and the Oregon Coast Aquarium. The area around Newport is fascinating because you can find fishing, hiking, whale watching and beach combing so close. We also had a chance to visit Depoe Bay where both a seal and whale obliged us by showing themselves. Also for the first time I was able to climb the Yaquina Bay Lighthouse. That didn’t work out too well though because I am scared of heights. After the lighthouse we made a quick stop to see the Devil’s Punchbowl, which the sea carved. On the final day, just before we left, the sea surprised us with a gift. A tidal pool. The starfish, fish, barnacles and other sea creatures made this the perfect memory. I hope to return to the Oregon Coast this year and take another friend with me but always keep this in mind. The Oregon Coast is the place where friendships and memories abound.
