Surfing with Whales

Grey Whale Flukes

My first time surfing was at Seaside. It was mid-May, raining, I was wearing a 4-5 suit with a hood and booties (I was praying for gloves). After getting churned over the rocks for a few hours, I threw in the towel. The other two surfers and I walked out to the point to see the real surfers at the break. On our way out I looked into the bay where we were surfing, a humpback whale tail surfaced about 25 feet from where we were surfing. It made everything worth it, I’ll never forget that experience.
