Getting the Kinks Out

Posted by Suzanne / August 20, 2008

It was April 25th, when my husband and I arrived at Depoe Bay’s Surfrider Motel, following 6-1/2 hours of driving. The friendly receptionist handed us the keys to our room and told me I could swim in their heated, indoor pool until 9:00 p.m. A perfect way to get the kinks out! To our amazement, the double queen “studio” room was huge. We immediately scurried to our own, personal balcony overlooking the ocean with waves crashing over the jutting rocks.

“We can sleep with our windows open to hear the ocean,” I said to my husband. Yes, to trade in the sound of city traffic for ocean’s roar—what a delight! Our room also had a refrigerator, microwave, and coffee maker, perfect to store the breakfast and lunch foods we had brought. It was mid week, quiet, and the motel charged us “seniors” an affordable $79/night for a room steeped in luxury!

Oh, I took the receptionist’s suggestion and swam in the pale green waters of the warm pool, before being lulled to sleep by the ocean’s pounding.
